Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to the site.
I have added and will update a page with PDF files to (hopefully) help out with ORAL MOTOR THERAPY EXERCISES. Do take a look... and as always, any advice gratefully welcomed.
I would just like to recommend: PECS FOR ALL/PICTO SELECTOR - This is FREE software and is just fantastic. Link Here.
Also: QUICK PICS - Also a great software download for free. This is almost a (basic) version of boardmaker so it is great for building up schedules and things.
Fore ready made boards that you can print, or if you download the software mentioned (all free) then you can also edit, visit the schedules page.
An Area for free makaton resources. This is a very, very limited area though and so if you do come across anything in this section, I would really love to hear about it and then I can get it up on the site for other parents and carers too.
I've also added a page with some infomation on Messy Play and the benefits it can have, some ideas and some visual cards to enable your child to choose which messy play activities s/he would like to do.
Also, the eBook in "Autism Early Intervention PDF" here (not written by me!) is fantastic and I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone!
Thank you all for visiting and for the comments received!
This is a resource for parents, carers, educators of those with special needs, specifically autism spectrum disorders. I am the mother of a child who is on the spectrum too and have created this site to share the visual aids that we use and also to share the links to other great free resources. A lot of the things you will find on the site are based around PECS - picture exchange communication system. As my little boy is non-verbal, the speech therapist agreed that it was definately worht a shot... My son has done amazingly well with it (so far, we're still learning) and has even shocked me - when I already knew how clever he was! - It genuinely is the best thing that's happened for him, it's opened up lots of new doors and he is making progress in a lot more ways than I could of ever imagined. I hope that these items on here can be of use to others too.
I would seriously recommend that if you are hoping to use PECS as an Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) then consult your speech and language therapist or paediatrician first and use a qualified instructor to train you. Though I am intending on putting up a lot of information on how to use the picture exchange communication system, this is intended to be used as a reference, not instruction manual. The process is a lot more complex than it seems and a qualified instructor is the only person who can really train you to use the system properly.
