Other Sites
There are many sites where you can find lots of free PECS stuff, social stories, visual timetables etc - quality does vary, and you have to accept that there is a lot of time required on your behalf no matter whether you pay out for the best software, use clipart, or just print off lots of stuff from the net. It can take a whole evening to get printed, cut-out, laminated and velcro-ed - especially if you are downloading a file that has just a few of the symbols you want. Just remember that if it is working for your child then it is worth it.
If you are interested in purchasing a software with symbols, then you could consider mrsriley.com - her application online is like a basic boardmaker, there are symbols and photographs, you search what you want and then simply "drag" the image into a grid aquare (you pick the size) it is not free, though you get a free trial, but is pay as you go. You can choose a month for $5 (£3 approx) 4 months for $15 (£10 approx) or a whole year for just $45 (£30 approx) - this is the only software that I have ever paid for, and just get a months access as and when I need it. It is definately worth it, I whole-heartedly recommend it to everyone. Your first 24 hours is totally free and you do not give any card details out until you officially subscribe - check it out for free.
Right, now the free stuff.
Children With Special Needs - This is a great site with a selection of PECS symbols for free, all categorised into sections such as Food, Toys, Emotions.
Picture SET - This is just FANTASTIC. Cannot recommend this enough! Almost all the files are in PDF format. There are vocabulary cards, games, activities, stories - covering almost everything you can imagine. I have downloaded so much from this site!
Autistas - This is a Brazilian site but all the PECS CARDS ARE IN ENGLISH. A very good selection.
Do2Learn - A great website, the black and white PECS Cards are free, and the site is worth looking at as there's a massive variety of other resources.
TrainlandPECS - You'll need to scroll down, but there are lots of pages of color PECS Cards.
SENTeacher - Lots and lots of resources to print, all sorts of things that may be of interest to those caring for a child with autism. If you go to the "Photo Cards" then you can search for whatever you like and print off the PECS cards from there. It is a good little site. There's also a good section for making emotion cards.
Speaking of Speech - The link here takes you direct to the AAC (Alernative/Augmentative Communication) area, as there are a few great communications boards, but please take a look at the whole site, in the material exchange area, as there are loads of language related activities for free.
Tinsnips - Many people use this site and though not the best for downloading PECS Cards, there are lots of fab resources there, so definately worth a look.
