Messy Play Benefits, Information and Free Flash Cards.
On a personal note;
Over the last 3-4 months, my son has been incredibly "messy" and has been using every single opportunity (and we're talking split seconds) to make as much mess, cause as much havoc and bring as much disaster to my home, as possible! I'm smiling while I write this, but the whole carton of eggs smashed on my kitchen floor or the cinnamon everywhere, the milk poured on my couch and such like have actually had me in tears... never ending. Usually my DS will have these little "phases" where he goes through "strange" behaviours, but within a few weeks he is out of it and onto something else. THIS, however, is sticking around it seems and I have no other option to believe that it's all down to sensory seeking. He isn't doing it for attention and he isn't doing it because of a lack of play stimulation, he's just doing it! Heehee. So it MUST be sensory!
Therefore, after reading a few things, I've incorporated a new bit to our day, which is messy play. I've only done it for a couple of days now but fingers crossed, it will be a new outlet for his mess making! I'm putting in 30 minutes in the morning, so that he can be cleaned up in the bath as usual. However, if we have time (home day) or he's in a mood where he's obviously looking for some sensory stimulation then we'll do something else too.
I have made up a PDF to share with flashcards (photos included for visual cues) to help your child choose which messy play activities to do, and it also gives you information of what you will need, what to do and how to get messy with it!
